You may be tempted to purchase an EV charger online from an overseas retailer to save a few dollars, but it’s advised you not to do this.
You are risking the chances of:
Electric Shock
Electrical Fire
Fault that could cause damage to you EV or home
Insurance not paying out in the event of a claim
Supplier not providing assistance in the event of a warranty claim
No aftersales service
It is also prohibited for an electrician to install an EV charger that is not registered the EESS and does not have a Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM)
Even though the charger looks the same or has the same specifications, there may be a very small difference from the Australian-sold charger. All suppliers of EV chargers, cables, and other electrical equipment in Australia must be registered with EESS as responsible suppliers of electrical equipment. A declaration must be provided that all equipment meets standards and is electrically safe. All electrical equipment must also be registered on the EESS database.
